Subaru WRX - 4 Wheel Drive Fun
The current version of the WRX uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged DOHC flat-4 that produces 265 horsepower and 244 lb-ft of torque. The WRX is all-wheel drive and was built for serious fun in wet, muddy, or snowy roads. Its curb weight is 3,200 lbs and you can expect to get somewhere around 23 MPG with this car. Some cars that compete with the WRX are the Mazdaspeed3, Volkswagen GTI, Honda Civic Si, and Mini Clubman S.
For a base price of $25,595 this little turbocharged car buys you a lot of fun. It actually produces an astonishing 0 – 60 times of 5 seconds because of its all-wheel drive but the acceleration starts fall off after 60. The WRX comes in a hatchback version or a sedan version depending on your personal taste. Also, for about $5,000 more you can opt for the WRX STI version of the Subaru which gets you more horsepower, a better tuned suspension, and the STI signature rear spoiler.
As for word on the next generation WRX (which should be coming out soon) little is known. But we expect Subaru to continue with the all-wheel drive and turbocharged platform that has made this car such a success in the first place.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced sports car around $30k there’s not much out there that can accelerate faster than the WRX and there’s definitely nothing out there that will give you as much fun.
